The Gonski Report: an opportunity for a progressive education in Australia missed by the government

Thanks to our Australian correspondent, Phil Rooke, for bringing this report on a potential progressive pathway for education to our attention. Unfortunately, the government had other ideas, and decided on more of the same on lower budgets, and a model of higher education where the burden for funding is placed on the individual.


The idea was to create a system where a student’s success at school would be determined by their ability, application and willingness to work hard rather than where they lived, what their family background was or whether they were indigenous or had a disability.
