It is tempting to view this as a feel-good tale of altruism in the teaching sector. It’s warm and comforting and conveniently apolitical to think of us as Miss Honey figures selflessly supporting our impoverished pupils, fuelled by the goodness in our hearts. But the reality is a whole lot more bleak.
